Why You Need to Proactively Seek Out Reviews

business reviews

How many reviews do you have on your Google Business Profile and Facebook page? How many do your competitors have? These are numbers you should be familiar with. Why? Because reviews matter. 77% of consumers regularly or always read reviews when browsing for local businesses. Now, that’s a number you can’t ignore.

While reviews weigh heavily in customer decision making, they also play a key role in your online visibility. Your reviews help Google determine where it will place your Google Business Profile in the search results. The number of reviews is important, but it is not the only factor. The quality of the review also matters, including:

  • The number of stars (FYI – only businesses with a 4.0 star rating and above are eligible to show in the Google Business Profile search results for searches with “top” or “best” in them)
  • The length and detail of the review, i.e., the problem the customer had and how you solved it
  • Names of employees
  • Photos related to the product or service as this adds credibility

If you have a negative review near the top of your Google Business Profile, you definitely should be seeking reviews from happy customers. You can’t remove a bad review unless it’s spam. The best thing to do is bury it with good reviews.

Facebook reviews are also important. They help build confidence in your brand and give you credibility. If you are actively promoting your business on Facebook, it is likely that people will review your Facebook page. Having a significant number of good reviews will help potential leads make a positive decision about your business.
